Hyundai has earned a total of 126 Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety awards since the beginning of the awards program (2006-2024).

To qualify for IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+, a vehicle must earn good ratings in the small overlap front and updated side tests and no less than acceptable in the updated moderate overlap front test. Available safety features that look ahead, check if you’re drifting, or if there’s something in your blind spot – they even show it to you onscreen. Several SmartSense features not only warn you of potential accidents, they can step in when necessary to help keep you and your passengers safe.

Hyundai Forward Collision Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection

Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection (FCA-Ped)⁠

When the system detects a vehicle or pedestrian in your path, it warns you of a potential collision. If you don’t begin stopping in time, the system may automatically apply braking.⁠

Hyundai Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist

Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA)⁠

If your Hyundai detects a vehicle in your blind spot while your turning signal's on, it will alert you and may automatically apply the left or right front brake before you change lanes.⁠

Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM)⁠

When you signal to change lanes, a live camera feed of the lane will appear on the digital instrument gauge display, and you’ll hear an alert if another vehicle is detected. This feature is available on select vehicles.⁠

Lane Following Assist (LFA)⁠

Using the front-view camera to detect lane markers on the road, this feature assists the driver's steering to help keep the vehicle centered inside the lane.⁠

Lane Keeping Assist (LKA)⁠

This feature warns you through audio and visual cues if it detects your vehicle drifting out of its driving lane without signaling. If necessary, it may gently apply corrective steering assistance to keep you inside the lane.⁠

Driver Attention Warning (DAW)⁠

To help prevent potential accidents, this system monitors your driving patterns to detect drowsy or inattentive driving. Once detected, it alerts you with a sound cue coupled with a warning message on the instrument cluster.⁠

Forward Attention Warning (FAW)⁠

This safety feature, available on select vehicles, monitors the driver's attentiveness to the road by detecting eye position using a driver-facing camera. If it determines driver inattention or drowsiness, it will alert you with an audible tone and a message on the instrument panel reminding you to stay focused on the road ahead. It does not detect and provide an alert in every situation. It is the driver's responsibility to remain alert at all times. See Owner’s Manual for further details and limitations.⁠

High Beam Assist (HBA)⁠

Constantly turning your high beams off and on can be a hassle, which is why this thoughtful feature automatically does it for you. It can detect oncoming vehicles and toggle between high and low beams accordingly.⁠

Available, advanced safety technology can help you with some of the more tedious parts of driving, making commutes and long drives so much easier.

Smart Cruise Control (SCC) with Stop & Go⁠

While traveling at a speed set by you, this feature, available on select vehicles, uses radars to maintain a safe distance from the car ahead. After the system slows the vehicle to a stop, it will reactivate if the vehicle in front moves within 3 seconds.⁠

Highway Driving Assist (HDA)⁠

This feature, available on select vehicles, helps maintain a set distance and speed from the vehicle ahead when driving on a highway and helps center the vehicle in the lane, even through a curve.⁠

Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA-2)⁠

Highway Driving Assist 2, available on select vehicles helps keep you centered in your lane while also maintaining a set speed and distance from the vehicle in front. It also assists you when changing lanes.⁠

Parking Safety

Looking out – and even in – when you park.

Potential accidents can come from anywhere when you park. SmartSense parking-related sensors, available on select vehicles, keep an eye out for you when you’re backing out or in. They also help keep your backseat passengers safe, whether they’re getting out onto a road or accidentally left inside.

Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA)⁠

When you’re going in reverse, this feature, available on select vehicles, lets you know if its sensors detect a vehicle approaching from the left or right. It may even apply the brakes automatically if needed.⁠

Advanced Rear Occupant Alert (Advanced ROA)⁠

As the engine is turned off, this feature, available on select vehicles, uses a visual warning in the instrument cluster to remind you to check the rear seats before exiting. Additionally, overhead sensors monitor the backseat area to minimize the risk of a child or pet accidentally being left inside after the vehicle is parked and locked. If sensors detect movement, the horn will honk, lights will flash and your smartphone will receive an alert through Bluelink®.⁠

Rear Occupant Alert (ROA)⁠

After the engine is turned off, this feature, available on select vehicles, uses a visual warning in the instrument cluster reminds you to check the rear seats before exiting.⁠

Safe Exit Assist (SEA)⁠

This pioneering innovation, available on select vehicles, warns the driver when the vehicle is parked and its radar detects a vehicle approaching from behind. If necessary, it can override attempts to deactivate the Electronic Child Safety Lock until it’s safe for your child to open the door.⁠

Safe Exit Warning (SEW)⁠

This pioneering innovation, available on select vehicles, warns the driver when the vehicle is parked and its radar detects a vehicle approaching from behind.⁠

Available on select vehicles, our SmartSense cameras and sensors help make it less stressful – whether it’s giving you a better view around you, warning you of an approaching car, or even parking your Hyundai for you.

Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (PCA-R)⁠

When you're reversing in a parking spot, this feature, available on select vehicles, will give you an audio warning when sensors detect a potential collision. It may even apply brakes if necessary.⁠

Surround View Monitor (SVM)⁠

This feature, available on select vehicles, combines camera feeds to give you a 360-degree bird's-eye view around your vehicle.⁠

Remote Smart Parking Assist 2 (RSPA)⁠

This feature, available on select vehicles, enables your Hyundai to park itself, even when you’re not inside. It can parallel park, and enter into and exit out of a parking space with a press and hold of your Smart Key button.⁠

This feature, available on select vehicles, enables your Hyundai to park itself, even when you're not inside. It can back into and pull out of a parking space with a push of your Smart Key button.⁠

Parking Distance Warning – Reverse and Forward⁠

Available on select vehicles, ultrasonic sensors in the front and rear bumpers can help detect nearby objects you might not be able to see from the driver's seat.⁠

Hyundai has a total of nine 2024 models recognized by the IIHS. ELANTRA, ELANTRA HYBRID, TUCSON and TUCSON HYBRID (award applies only to vehicles built after March 2024), PALISADE, and SANTA CRUZ were named a 2024 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK. While the KONA, IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 received 2024 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ honors, its highest safety award.
